England v Ireland Rugby Legends Charity Match – In aid of Restart Rugby

England v Ireland Rugby Legends Charity Match
St Patrick’s Weekend

A fun, exciting evening of Legends Rugby followed by live band & dancing
Twickenham Stoop – Friday 16th March 2018, KO 7.45pm

Every year legends of the game volunteer to play free of charge to raise hugely valuable funds for charities. To date, across 13 matches the England Legends have raised £943,000 – an astonishing achievement and a major benefit to the receiving charities.

2018 beneficiaries will be Paul Curtis, (ex-Harlequins player), Restart Rugby – The Players Charity, The IRFU Charitable Trust, The IRUPA and Cure Parkinson’s Trust chosen by Mike Tindall who will captain the England side.

The Legends event is planned to be a fun, family night of entertainment with pre-match curtain raisers between local rugby minis, half time entertainment and a live band and dancing post-match.

“It is amazing to think that since the English vs Irish Legends series started over seven years ago that together we have raised an amazing £750,000 for our nominated charities.

Thank you to the RPA for continuing to support this event with resource, energy and enthusiasm. We have nominated Restart Rugby as one of our charities because they provide financial, practical and emotional support to ill and injured players, during and after their professional rugby career. There is no better example of this, than the support that they gave to Alex Bennett, who has played for the Legends and whilst preparing for another legends match suffered a serious neck injury while playing for his local team, Lymm RFC. He was immediately transferred to Leeds Hospital for emergency spinal surgery. Restart Rugby has been able to help with physiotherapy costs and, in the true spirit of the rugby community, several members of England’s 2003 World Cup winning squad came together with current players to take part in a charity rugby match to raise funds for Alex and other injured players.

This is why we play the game and thank you again for your support.”Jason Leonard OBE.
