Alex Brown

Gloucester lock, Alex Brown, suffered serious nerve damage to his shoulder in the opening game of the 2012/13 season. After nearly three months of rest and rehabilitation, he underwent complex surgery in the hope that it would repair the damage.

However, following the operation, Alex was advised that he would no longer be able to play professional rugby and must retire with immediate effect. The shattering news left him devastated and shocked.

Alex’s injury and subsequent retirement ironically fell in his Testimonial year, during which he generously supported Restart through a packed programme of events to raise funds for other injured players. Restart was able to help Alex with a career transition grant to retrain and he is now back at Gloucester Rugby working in the role of Operations Director.
