Robert Todd

In 2006, former Sale Sharks player Robert Todd had his future mapped out. He was coming to the end of his contract with Sale and had been accepted to train as a chiropractor at a prestigious College in America.

Plans were well advanced to move his family stateside and start a new life, but then Robert was diagnosed with a potentially fatal skin cancer. He was forced to retire from the game with immediate effect, and received a donation from Restart Rugby to help with his medical costs.

“My whole world changed overnight. The onset of cancer turned my family’s world upside down. Restart Rugby was there to help us out with medical costs, support and advice – all through my treatment and recovery.”

Amazingly, just over a year after his diagnosis, Toddy ran the Flora London Marathon for us, raising £8,000 to help his fellow players. Restart Rugby has continued to support him in recent years, including additional funding to enable him to finally qualify as a chiropractor and purchase equipment to support his new career.
